Shock and sadness descended upon East Mayo over the Bank Holiday weekend following the tragic loss of life to a young man in a road traffic collision.
James McNeive, aged 28, from Knock, died after the van he was driving was involved in a collision with a lorry on Sunday morning.
The accident happened shortly after 6am on the N15 at Urlar, near Drumcliffe, Co Sligo. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Mr McNeive worked as a Primary school teacher in Dublin and more recently in Gortskehy National school in Hollymount in Mayo.
He was also a talented Gaelic footballer and played senior football with Aghamore.
Paying tribute Local Aontú Councillor Paul Lawless, who was a good friend of Mr McNeive, said he and the wider community are completely devastated by the tragedy.
Local parish priest Fr Richard Gibbons said the community has been left horrified by the news and locals are doing their best to support the family.
