In Roscommon, 15 seats out of a total of 18 have been filled.

Counts didn't begin until yesterday, following an issue with uncertain votes. proceedings were called off shortly before 1 o'clock on Saturday night, with counting to resume at 10am yesterday.

ROSCOMMON

In the Roscommon LEA, both Fianna Fail's Pascal Fitzmuarice and his party colleague Marty McDermott were deemed elected after the first count.

Count 4 saw Independent Ireland's Nigel Dineen and Independent's Tony Waldron retain their seats in the area.

Fine Gael's Gareth Scahill and Fianna Fail's Larry Brennan were both deemed elected following count number 6.

ATHLONE

All 6 seats were also filled in the Athlone electoral area.

3 were elected following count 1. They were Independent's Emer Kelly and Tony Ward alongside Fine Gael's John Naughton.

Count 3 saw outgoing Independent councillor Laurence Fallon reclaim his seat. Fianna Fail's John Keogh took his seat following count 7 and on count 9 Fine Gael's Domnick Connolly of Fine Gael took the final seat there.

Word of note to Sinn Fein's Sam Brooks, one of the youngest candidates nationally at 18 who battled out with Connolly until the final count and was defeated by only 38 votes.

BOYLE

3 seats remain to be taken in the Boyle electoral area, where a full recount has been called.

Independent Valerie Byrne took her seat following count 3, Sinn Fein's Leah Cull was deemed elected following count 5 while Ballaghaderreen's Michael Frain took seat number 3 following the 7th count.

A full recount will take place from 12 noon this morning due to the closeness in votes between the remaining candidates.
