The seven seats on Mayo County Council for the Castlebar Municipal District have been filled.

Independent Michael Kilcoyne was the first home, topping the poles with 2,405 votes. 

Fine Gael's Ger Deere returns after the first count also with almost 2,000 votes.

Cyril Burke (FG), Blackie Gavin (FF), Al McDonnell (FF) and Donna Sheridan (FG) all retain their seats on the council also.

Outgoing cllr Martin McLoughlin failed to retain his seat, which went to IND Harry Barrett.

The former Town Councillor had previous failed attempts to be elected to the County Council table but has earned a seat after a mammoth count.

It took 14 counts to allocate the Castlebar seats.
