Counting is back underway in the local elections at count centres across the country.

European ballot boxes have been opened in the last hour.

Boxes started being opened in the European elections this morning with counting getting underway later

But even if a first count is done it can't be announced until 10pm

210 of the 949 local election seats has been filled with some of those counts going into the very early hours of the morning.

The pace of counting has varied massively - Leitrim County Council was the first to fill all seats while some have yet even announce a first count.

There's a straight shoot out between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil to be the largest party in local Government while it's been a very poor election for Sinn Fein.
