Speeding motorists will be targeted by Gardai­ as part of the latest National Slow Down Day which began at 7 this morning.

The Garda operation will centre on high visibility speed enforcement across the country's road network.

Already this year 63 people have died in road traffic collisions.

Last year saw 184 road deaths, 19 per cent increase on the year before.

The Love 30 campaign wants 30 kilometre per hour speed limits introduced in all built up areas.

Spokesperson Joan Swift is worried people may slow down today but go back to their old habits tomorrow.
