Local people gathered at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Moycullen last night, where prayers were offered for the Bowden family.

Una Bowden aged (47) and her daughters Ciara Bowden (14) and Saoirse Bowden (9) from Moycullen were fatally injured in a road traffic collision on the N17 in Castlegar, Claremorris,on Tuesday afternoon last.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the fatal road traffic collision between a car and an articulated lorry.

The lorry driver was not injured.

David Bowden, husband of Una and father to Ciara and Saoirse, was working abroad when the tragedy occurred.  Mr Bowden is a project manager with the United Nations and had been working on a humanitarian project in Ethiopia.

Una Bowden was originally from Co Donegal and lived with her husband in Africa for a number of years before moving to Galway. 

Post mortems of the deceased took place yesterday at Mayo University Hospital.  The results of these post mortems are not being released for operational reasons.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
