A number of straight-forward measures could greatly enhance traffic flow through Ballina town. That’s the view of the Cathaoirleach of Ballina Municipal District Seamus Weir.
At the monthly meeting of Ballina Municipal District the Independent councillor called for the pedestrian crossing on Emmet Street to be raised in an effort to physically reduce the speed of the traffic travelling in the two lanes in the same direction, in addition he believes that on the lower bridge, traffic should run in both directions, rather than two lanes in the same direction at present. He has also called for additional parking spaces on the edge of the town and he has submitted these and additional suggestions to Ballina’s Traffic Plan that is underway, for some time now.
The Cathaoirleach expressed his frustration trying to deal with TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland) when pedestrian crossings and raised crossings are an obvious solution to the speed of traffic on some of the major routes through the town.
