A man in his 40’s was arrested on the Sligo ATU campus yesterday afternoon following an incident there.
It is understood that the man was brandishing a knife and threatened students.
ATU confirmed there was a "concerning incident" on the campus grounds yesterday afternoon in which "a member of the public gained unauthorised access and threatened students".
"Thankfully," the statement said, " due to the swift response of our security team and the prompt intervention of the gardaí, the situation was brought under control without any injuries. We want to thank our security team, students, and staff for their quick response to this incident."
Gardaí responded promptly to the situation and have taken the suspect into custody at Sligo Garda Station, according to ATU which said the university is cooperating fully with the authorities.
Gardai say the man received medical attention at a Garda Station and has since been released from custody.
No injuries were reported to any persons. Enquiries are ongoing.
