Irish farmers are being urged to show their support this evening for their European colleagues.

The Irish Farmers Association has organised a series of tractor protests across the country in every county.

President Francie Gorman says Irish farmers have been watching in frustration as those in France, Germany, Belgium, Poland and other EU member states have been staging demonstrations in recent months.

They are fighting against European rules which they say will 'regulate them out of business'

The IFA action is due to get underway generally at 7 o'clock this evening, with the Mayo IFA protesters to gather at MacHale Park, Castlebar at 7pm for a tractocade through the county town.

Galway IFA members will gather at 5pm at Carnmore Cross for a tractocade through Galway city.

Traffic disruption this evening can be expected as a result.
