A 20 meter long Fin Whale was discovered at Ross Beach in Killala over the weekend.

It is understood that the whale came ashore barely alive and died on the rocks.

Many people have gathered over the weekend to pay their respects, in awe at the sheer size of the animal.

The discovery was brought to the attention of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group on Saturday who conducted an investigation to take samples from the whale and find out more information about its death.

According to the organisation, the whale was extremely thin and had not been feeding for some time.

It has been strongly advised that due to the current weather warnings and the possibility that this whale could still be carrying zoonotic diseases, people should not go near the animal.
