Incidents of wave overtopping and flooding was experienced in some coastal areas.
Mayo County Council crews were stood down during the red warning for safety reasons.
Council crews will begin assessing the full scale of damage at the earliest opportunity and with the benefit of daylight a clean up operation will commence.
We are urging the public to continue to exercise caution as they go about their business in the morning as many roads will have fallen trees , branches and debris which may cause difficulties to road users.
