The HSE has lodged a planning application for the proposed new Community Nursing Unit at the site of the current St Anne's Nursing home in Clifden.
This will be put in place to replace both the existing nursing home as well as Clifden Hospital.
The decision is due in early March and will provide a 40 bed community nursing facility including a special dementia unit and respite beds.
The announcement has been welcomed by councillor Gerry King.
