Cervical cancer in Ireland will be eliminated by 2040 with sustained effort from all stakeholders.
The Minister for Health has made the declaration to mark Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action, a global initiative aimed at eradicating cervical cancer.
Stephen Donnelly says the goal will be achieved by Increasing HPV vaccination rates, maintaining cervical screening coverage at or above 73 per cent and maintaining the number of women receiving treatment within the first year of diagnosis at or above 97 per cent.
