Pharmacists will soon be able to extend the life of a prescription from six to twelve months.

Its part of measures to enhance the role of pharmacists and limit the pressure on GP services.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says from the 1st of March next the extension will also mean many patients will be able to continue medications without the need for a repeat prescription.
