Uisce Eireann is being warned it faces legal action if it doesn't improve waste water standards.

The latest report from the Environmental Protection Agency found the equivalent of 3 Olympic sized swimming pools of untreated sewage is entering Ireland's water system every day of the year.

Newport in county Mayo is among the areas highlighted in the report as a location where raw sewage continues to be pumped into the bay.

15 towns and cities across the country are not meeting EU standards and are putting the local population and environment at risk.

The EPA's Noel Byrne says Uisce Eireann need to show evidence that they are going to fix these issues or face heading back to court...
