Uisce Eireann is being warned it faces legal action if it doesn't improve waste water standards.
The latest report from the Environmental Protection Agency found the equivalent of 3 Olympic sized swimming pools of untreated sewage is entering Ireland's water system every day of the year.
Newport in county Mayo is among the areas highlighted in the report as a location where raw sewage continues to be pumped into the bay.
