There was welcome news last night at another public meeting regarding the survival of the Post Office in Bonniconlon.
It was revealed at the meeting that the present tenant of the local Gala shop in the village has applied to run the Post Office in the same premises.
As the present Post master retires from the position in the same location this Friday, it is now hoped that An Post will allow the post office to remain open, with no interruption to the service.
Local Fianna Fail councillor Annie May Reape says it’s great news and added that it’s now very important that the community uses the services provided in the local post office.
The community working with Minister of State Dara Calleary and local councillors, together with the owners of the local shop and post office premises and the tenants have all campaigned over recent weeks to keep the post office open as a viable business and An Post has now confirmed that an applicant to take over the post office has been received.
Cllr Reape has been speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley about the latest welcome news…
