Certain medicines which currently require a doctor's prescription will soon be available over the counter.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly is bringing a memo to cabinet today, which also aims to address medicine shortages.
The Health Bill will also allow pharmacists to substitute medicines prescribed by doctors in the event of a shortage.
It's understood the contraception pill is among the medicines which would become available without a prescription if passed.
