Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has confirmed that €7 million funding has been allocated to Mayo as part of this year’s Health Capital Plan.
The funding has been welcomed by Mayo Fianna Fáil Senator Lisa Chambers.
Of the total sum, €6.7 million has been allocated to Mayo University Hospital, which includes significant funding for the urgent need of development and expansion of the Emergency Department.
The Health Capital Plan is published on an annual basis to outline where the government will distribute funding for health infrastructure.
The extension to the Emergency Department will of course require planning and design which will take some time, but Senator Lisa Chambers says it won’t take years and years.
