The death has occurred of well known former Ballyhaunis business man Val (Valentine) Byrne.
For many years Val and his family ran Val’s bar and restaurant on Main St in Ballyhanunis and the establishment won many provincial national awards throughout the 70s and 80s.
Val sold the business, that now trades as Val’s Bar and Bistro at the same location, and moved to Kilkenny, a number of years ago.
He and his family were also involved in the egg importation business in Ballyhaunis for many years.
He passed away at Maynooth Lodge Nursing Home.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Anne née Granville, and second wife, Bid (Brigid) Byrne, O Carroll, née Killilea.
His remains will repose at Donnellan’s Funeral Home, Clare Street. Ballyhaunis this Sunday evening, from 5pm until 7pm.
Requiem Mass will take place on Monday morning, at 11 o’clock, in St. Patrick’s Church, Ballyhaunis with burial afterwards in the local cemetery.
