A section of the Cloggernagh East road, off the main Westport road, outside Castlebar that serves a number of houses is in a terrible state of disrepair, and yet another section of the same road that runs to a new underpass, and one house is restored to a high standard and that makes no sense, according to Castlebar councillor Ger Deere.
The Fine Gael councillor raised the matter at the May monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.
The Cloggernagh East road, the councillor claimed, was used as a service / link road as the new N5 Turlough to Westport dual carriageway was being built.
He said in the aftermath the road was left in a poor condition, and the councillor claims that recently up to 15 staff and machinery arrived on the road and a section of the road, the less used section, was tarred to a high standard – while approx 150 yards of the road with houses was left untouched and in a poor state.
Councillor Deere has called on Mayo County Council to contact the contractors and insist that the entire road would be brought up to the same standard.
