After 47 years with Mayo County Council, the Head of Castlebar Municipal District, John McHale is to retire.
Tributes were paid to John by elected councillors at yesterday’s monthly meeting of the District.
John has worked across a wide range of sectors in the local authority over his long service, but is best known for his stewardship of the Housing Section.
Councillors described John as an outstanding official and thanked him for his long service. He is known as a man who is “cool under pressure” and was always approachable, affable and yet, firm.
"A loss to Mayo County Council", John was wished a long and happy retirement.
