HSE funding for 2023 was paused to St Coleman’s Day Services on Achill Island last month, due to concerns over the governance and management of the organisation, and both the Corporate Enforcement Authority and the Charities Regulator are investigating the facility.
Meals on Wheels are among the services provided at the centre.
In response to questions from Midwest News the HSE says that “St. Colman’s should have adequate funding to provide a Meals on Wheels service in 2023".
The Day Care Services at the facility had ceased months before the 2023 funds were paused, and Midwest News asked when the service will be restored and if staff continue to be paid while services are suspended?
In response the HSE says “it continued to fund St. Colman’s from 2020 – 2022, during which time the Day Services was ceased due to the COVID-19 Pandemic”.
“As St. Colman’s is a charitable organisation, the HSE cannot comment on contracts or payments in respect of their staff - this is a matter for their Board of Directors”.
“2023 funding will remain pending until such time as the HSE are satisfied that St. Colman’s have met all regulatory requirements”.
