There are calls for a pedestrian crossing to be installed in Tooreen, following the recent opening of its brand new playground facility.

Councillor John Caulfield is hoping that this operation will commence soon and told Midwest News that a feasibility study has been completed and submitted to the TII.

He believes that a pedestrian crossing is a must for the location as the play ground and car park are on the opposite side of a very busy stretch of road to the local National School, Community Centre and church.

The speed limit through Tooreen has been reduced to 60km/h but Councillor Caulfield insists that this is still not safe enough for pedestrians.

He has also confirmed that €500,000 has been allocated to the completion of another stretch of this route along the N83, which links it to the N17 between Glan and Tavraun.
