Despite promises, the costly underpass at Westport’s Atterish/ Gaelic pitch is not connected to anywhere, according to local Fine Gael councillor Peter Flynn.
The councillor says that the expensive construction was supposed to form part of the access to the Great Western Greenway, but to date is going nowhere.
He raised the matter at a recent meeting of the West Mayo Municipal District and also highlighted the need to address the maintenance needs of the Greenway that stretches from Westport to Achill, pointing out that in sections of the 42 km route there are up to 20 traffic cones warning users of the uneven surface at present.
