U.S President Joe Biden will explore his family heritage in Mayo and Louth and as part of a five day trip to Ireland next month.

He will arrive in Belfast on Tuesday April 11th before going to Dublin the following day and will depart Ireland on April 15th.

During his visit, Mr Biden will meet President Michael D Higgins in Áras an Uachtaráin.

The Taoiseach will host a reception for him at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park in Dublin.

His great-great-grandfather Patrick Blewitt, was born in Ballina, leaving in 1850 to sail to America.

Government sources have indicated that If Mr. Biden is to make a public address with large crowds present it is likely to happen in Mayo.

Full details of the itinerary is expected to be confirmed in the coming days.

Laurita Blewitt from Knockmore who is a cousin of the President Joe Biden says there is great excitement across the region in anticipation of his potential visit.
