There are no plans to replace Detective Superintendent Joe McKenna who he retires from the Castlebar HQ.
This news was confirmed at a recent Joint Policing Committee meeting which local Councillor Christy Hyland says is terrible news for the West of Ireland.
Cllr. Hyland there is also a situation where a Sergeant in Achill retired a number of weeks ago and there is no plan to replace him either.
He says the community is being neglected and believes the new policing model is not working.
