The Department of Education has announced the approval of 610 additional places on primary initial teacher education programmes.
320 of them will come on stream in 2023, and the remaining 290 in 2024.
The extra places will be available at DCU, Mary Immaculate College, Marino Institute of Education and Maynooth University.
Education Minister Norma Foley says the "growth in student numbers has contributed to a high demand for primary school teachers."
