It has been a difficult start to 2023 for gardai and the emergency services in county Mayo, with three fatalities following missing person appeals, six road traffic fatalities and a murder, over the three months.

These sad statistics were given by Mayo South Garda Superintendent Gabriel Moran to today’s meeting of the county Joint Policing Committee  (JPC), held in Aras an Chontae in Castlebar.

Supt Moran extended condolences to the families of all those who lost love ones, and in addition thanked and praised the work of  the gardai in the county and the assistance they received from their colleagues in the fire services, civil defence, the ambulance services and the coastguard, together with local volunteers, in all these situations.
