There is widespread shock and sadness throughout South Mayo after a teenager died in a road traffic collision.
He was hit by a truck at around 5 o'clock yesterday evening on the R345 in The Neale.
His body was removed to Mayo University Hospital for a post-mortem.
The driver of the truck was uninjured.
The road was closed overnight and into this morning to allow for a technical examination of the scene but the road has reopened this lunchtime.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed this collision to contact them.
Local Councillor Damien Ryan has expressed his deepest sympathy to both the families of the teenage boy and to the driver of the truck.
Cllr. Ryan has been speaking to Midwest News this lunchtime.
