Eviction notices are already being issued to tenants in Mayo, ahead of the lifting of the eviction ban at the end of the month, and according to Mayo Sinn Fein deputy Rose Conway Walsh her constituency office is flooded over the past week by families now faced or threatened with eviction and potential homelessness.

Sinn Fein has a motion down in the Dail this Wednesday calling on the government to extend the eviction ban, beyond the end of this month.

The coalition government’s party leaders are meeting this evening to discuss the move.

Green party TD Neasa Hourigan has stated that she will vote against her party in government on the motion, supporting the Sinn Fein ban on evictions.

Labour is also supporting the Sinn Fein motion and the party Leader Ivana Bacik saying if it’s defeated Labour will put forward a bill to extend the ban.

Deputy Rose Conway Walsh has been telling Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley more about how the lifting of ban is set to impact directly on a significant number of tenants in this county…
