There is some hope of closure, following the guilty verdict of Stephen Silver for the capital murder of Detective Garda Colm Horkan.

The detective was shot 11 times with his own gun as he tried to arrest Mr. Silver in Castlerea in June 2020.

The jury spent nine hours before reaching the guilty verdict, this is the second trial of the detective's murder, as last year that jury failed to reach a verdict.

Fire Officer Micheál Frain, of Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon, where Detective Horkan previously served, described the void left behind following his murder.

He has been speaking to Midwest News this morning.
