The Dutch Ambassador to Ireland Adriaan Palm is in county Mayo today for a number of engagements.

At noon today he attended a reception hosted by Mayo County Council at Aras an Chonate in Castlebar. He is meeting with local public representatives there, and before that this morning in the county town, hemet Senator Lisa Chambers and deputy Alan Dillon.

This afternoon he is due in Foxford, where he will visit Foxford National School.

The school is a participant of the Blue Star Programme,  an education initiative for primary school pupils across Ireland. The programme fosters better understanding and knowledge of the European Union and how it affects the lives of Irish citizens among primary pupils through classroom projects and activities.

Later this evening the Ambassador will be in Newport to visit  a biodiversity-themed agricultural event .

Ambassador Palm spoke to Midwest News editor Teresa O’Malley and outlined the purpose of his visit to the county today….
