The man arrested in connection with the discovery of the body of a Castlebar farmer on Sunday evening has been charged.

He is due to appear before Castlebar District Court shortly.

83 year old John Brogan lived alone in a cottage at Pheasant Hill, Cloonkeen, Castlebar and his body was discovered at his home, after a fire.

The Emergency services were called to his house at about 6.30pm on Sunday evening last, after flames were seen coming from the dwelling.

Shortly afterwards a local man in his 60s was arrested by gardai and brought to Castlebar Garda Station for questioning.

The property was sealed off for a garda forensic investigation yesterday and the Assistant State Patholigist Dr Margot Bolster carried out a preliminary investigation of the body at the house.
