The Department of Education spent over €104 million on the salaries of teachers in private schools last year.
According to freedom of information figures, the bill for two schools in Dublin was over €4 million.
It exceeded €3 million in five other schools around the country.
Sligo Grammar School's figures came to just under €1.9 million.
