More funding and the development of undergraduate General Practice placements are needed to address the ongoing GP workforce crisis.
There are 4,200 GPs in Ireland but one in seven are over 65 and likely to retire in the next few years.
It's estimated by 2025 the shortage of GPs could be as high as 1,380.
