Penneys are set to offer free sewing workshops in stores so that shoppers can learn how to mend their own clothes.
The classes will begin in April and start in the Penneys store in Dublin’s Liffey Valley. Master classes will follow in Galway, Waterford, Limerick, Cork and Tallaght.
These one hour classes will be hosted by Orla Kelly, who is an art – textile graduate from the National College of Art and Design (NCAD).
Customers are encouraged to bring some of their own clothes to learn some of the basic hand sewing mending techniques, as well as how to replace and repair buttons and hems, fixing zips and taking things in.
The workshops will come as part of the ‘Primark Cares’ initiative which aims to build a more sustainable and circular business by 2030.
