Many coach drivers are opting not to bring tours buses to Croagh Patrick because of the coach parking facilities available at the holy mountain.

That’s according to Westport based Independent councillor Christy Hyland and the councillor has called on Mayo County Council to urgently address the problem.

He raised the matter at the monthly meeting of the West Mayo Municipal District where he said that expecting international tourists to disembark from a coach directly on to a busy road is simply not acceptable and that’s the coach parking facilities now available at Croagh Patrick.

He said many coach drivers have told him, they simply won’t risk it and so opt not to bring tourists on coach trips to Croagh Patrick.

Councillor Hyland told Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley that he has continuously called for better coach parking in the district and he insists the Croagh Patrick issue must be resolved...
