Councillor Andrew Reddington has made the call following a plight of burglaries in Caherlistrane, Kilconly and Shrule.
He says the burglars seem to be aware when houses are vacant and are looking for anything of value such as cash, gold and jewellery.
Councillor Reddington also says the nearby motorway network makes it very easy for the people responsible to flee the area and is asking anyone who sees suspicious activity in their area to take a copy of the registration and model of the vehicle if possible and pass those details on to Gardaí as quickly as possible.
Councillor Reddington joins me on the line now. Councillor, a rise in the number of burglaries around that north Galway south mayo catchment, it's quite concerning for people living in the area....
