The recruitment process to appoint a director to lead the intervention at the Tuam Mother and Baby Home site is due to conclude next month.

Applications for the role closed on December 15 2022.

According to The Journal, this should pave the what for work to finally begin at the site in the coming months.

A spokesperson for the department of children has confirmed that the recruitment process is ongoing, and that “once a director is appointed, it is anticipated that they will start works at the site as soon as possible.”

The Journal understands that survivors and relatives have cautiously welcomed the news, but stressed there can be no further delays.
