After a two year delay, the HSE is about to sign off on the land needed by Mayo County Council to develop the second phase of the Mayo Multi sport facilities at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar.

Local deputy, Alan Dillon says news that the completion of the transfer of lands this month (Januiary) for the new running track and multi-sport playing fields in Castlebar is to be welcome, however, he has expressed his frustration with the slow progress in the delivery of Phase II of the Lough Lannagh Sports project, which includes a multi-lane tartan international standard running track, multi-sport playing fields and ancillary facilities.  

It has now been confirmed to the Fine Gael deputy that the boundary for the land at Knockaphunta, Castlebar, to transfer to the council, has been agreed with the HSE.  

 It is hoped that final sign-off will be completed this month, giving the green light for the authority to seek substantial Sports Capital Funding for the development.

Deputy Dillon says the delay in transferring the necessary land has been of concern, nonetheless, speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley he says progress can now be made on this significant investment for the county town…
