A walker was rescued off Croagh Patrick at the weekend

The Mayo Mountain Rescue team responded to its first call-out of 2023 on Sunday last.

The team assisted a walker who sustained an injury on the Holy Mountain on New Year's Day.

They were tasked at 2.30pm in the afternoon to assist a 55-year-old walker who suffered an ankle injury while descending the southern side of the mountain.

A first response team and stretcher party were deployed to the casualty's location.

The First Response team treated the casualty with suspected broken ankle and the injured walker was stretchered to an awaiting ambulance.

The team was stood down just after 4pm.
