Over seventy per cent of people in Ireland are afraid of being burgled.

That's according to the latest Phone Watch Report.

Gardaí are warning of a rise in theft in the run up to Christmas, particularly in rural areas.

Crime Prevention Executive Barry Carey from the Irish Farmer's Association, recommends having property marked or engraved by Gardaí.

At least 12 Toyota Priuses parked in Kilkenny city and Tipperary, had their catalytic converters removed in the past 2 weeks.

Green Party councillor Liam Quaide said his car also fell victim to the theft at the weekend
