The green light has been given today for the next stage in the development of a multi million euro new campus and facilities for the Mayo College of Further Education at Newtown, Castlebar.

The Minister for Further Education Simon Harris is due in Mayo this afternoon to officially make the announcement that will include funding for an expanded campus and an upgrade of the existing facilities.

The 540,000 euro in funding for the county under the scheme include trailhead upgrades at Old Head Beach, Louisburgh, Downpatrick Head trailhead improvements and Benwee Head  -  Carrowteige Coastal Loop Walks, Kilgalligan, Carrowteige.

Deputy Dillon says this is significant funding for the rural economy and will benefit all who enjoy these wonderful outdoor facilities.

 Minister of State Frank Feighin says that under the same scheme the Minister has announced €739,000 in funding for four outdoor adventure projects in Co Leitrim and Sligo. 

The major investment for the area will see the development of two car park areas and route trails in Drumshanbo, Aghacashel and Ballinamore while in Sligo the Red Earls Road along the old Miners Way will be upgraded
