Minister Pippa Hackett today announced a €60 million scheme to help farmers improve their water quality.

The scheme will run from 2023, and was announced at the Green Party’s Annual Conference in Athlone today.

The minister confirmed that she had secured €50 million worth of funding to work with farmers and local communities to improve water quality over the next five years.

In addition to this, she thanked Minister Malcolm Noonan for a contribution of the further €10 million from his department.

Also, a group representing farmers and people in rural Ireland were protesting outside the Conferenc  today, demanding ‘more open discussion’ with Environment Minister Eamon Ryan on issues like turf cutting and herd numbers.
