The Taoiseach has citicised homeowners who object to new housing developments, saying they should consider the plight of young people who can't afford to buy their own home.

Micheál Martin made the remaks at a private meeting of Fianna Fail councillors, where he spoke about the impact of the housing crisis on people under-40, according to the Irish Independent.

The Fianna Fail leader has also been critical of Sinn Fein and party leader Mary Lou McDonald for objections to new housing schemes.
