Additional rail carriages that are being obtained by Irish Rail should be used to greater connect the west of the country to the capital.
That's according to Independent TD Denis Naughten.
Currently, the latest train to the west for commuters departs Heuston just after 6 o'clock in the evening which is typically full to capacity, particularly at weekends.
Deputy Naughten says that at a time when we need to reduce our carbon footprint, greater accessibility to public transport will give people the option to leave the car at home.
