The sixth edition of Clann Mhuiris, the annual journal of Claremorris Historical Society, was launched in the Cúram centre Claremorris last week by well-known broadcaster, writer and publisher, Joe Byrne.

As well as the usual selection of photographs from the Main Street Gathering Page, this year’s edition features articles marking the 50th anniversary of the infamous double bombing of Claremorris Town Hall and the 40th anniversary of the 1982 All-Ireland Football Final refereed by P. J. McGrath and a team that included three Claremorris umpires.

Other articles include an account of the life of the patriot, P.J. Gordon of the Square; an examination of the businesses in Claremorris in the nineteenth century; Clanmorris under the Normans; the lost village of Kilcolman; the history of the Claremorris Open Art Exhibition; and a profile of the late Matt Cosgrove, who designed many of the best-known buildings in our town.

It is now available from the usual outlets in Claremorris.
