Applications for the expanded Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant have now opened for homeowners.

The news has been welcomed by Minister of State Peter Burke.

The scheme, which provides grants to homebuyers who choose to purchase vacant and derelict homes, has now been broadened to allow applications for properties in areas with a population of less than 400.

Previously, the grants of up to €50,000 were only applicable to households in more densely populated areas.
