Members of the public are urged to attend a public meeting this evening (Thurs) in Galway calling for a new build cancer care centre to be provided at University Hospital Galway.
The Centre of Excellence for Cancer Care for patients in Mayo, Galway, Roscommon, Leitrim, Sligo and Donegal is in Galway, but the facilities are outdated and not fit for purpose.
Tonight’s meeting at 7.30 pm takes place in the Salthill Hotel, and will be led by Professor of Oncology Michael Kerin and will call on the HSE, the government and the Minister for Health to deliver on the long promised new centre.
Mayo Fianna Fail Senator Lisa Chambers will b e attending tonight’s meeting as she says the facilities are needed, considering that the survival rate for breast and lung cancer is lower in the west than nationally, at present.
