Sales of cars in Galway have risen by 9.2% in the first ten month of the year, compared to the same period last year.

 that's according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), making it the biggest increase for a county in the province.

Mayo has seen an increase of 6.4%, and Roscommon saw a 2% jump. Sligo is the only county to see a fall in sales - with a decrease of 1.3%.

There were 1,916 vehicles registered in Mayo in the first ten months of this year compared to 1,800 during the same time last year.

Galway's registration rose by almost 400 to 4,437, Roscommon saw an increase of 20 to 990. Leitrim had the biggest jump with 422 new car registrations with a rise of 38.
